CATARACTS

I wouldn't exactly consider myself a techno junkie...but I know good music when I hear it, and this new joint from the Cataracts is grizzly!

Marco Brambilla

Marco Brambilla may not be a house hold name but I'm sure you have all seen Kanye's new music video for his track 'Power'.

Brambilla the artist behind the scenes who produced Kanye's video. He is a filmmaker willing to push the envelope and is causing commotion wherever he goes.

NinjaSonik

NinjaSonic. With a name like that you can't go wrong. I Stumbled across this trio while looking up some videos from Carniville this year. The electric beats mixed with smooth flows and witty rhymes caught my attention immediately. I have always been conflicted with my love for Biggy Small, Lil Wayne and Plies VS. my love for The Bombay Bicycle Club, The XX and Mumford and Sons, but NinjaSonik's got it ALL.

Check out their video for 'Sombody Gonna Get Pregnant':

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the differences between the cultures I've lived in and the other day I was browsing through Youtube and stumbled across this. It’s a clip of a girl (most likely Honduran) dancing La Punta. Yes, I am Honduran and yes I grew up dancing it. Looking at it from the American point of view it is hard for some to believe that this is a dance we teach our children and one that people dance in all different kinds of occasions form weddings to birthday parties. I remember I spent my 6th, and later my 9th grades in Virginia and if there was any sort of provocative or contact dancing you were kicked out immediately. In Honduras and Trinidad for instance, there is no other way to dance. Dancing is about passion and letting loose and having as much fun as you can until you can't any more. Just thought I'd share a small part of MY culture with you guys.

*Dream Car*

I don’t need no Cadillacs, Beamers or Benz…just give me a Fiat500!

Ljubljana? Why not!

Just got home from the train station and I can NOT sit still. A girlfriend and I decided last minute to take a train to Ljubjana, Slovenia for the weekend. We found a great hostel, only 18 Euros a night and the train is only 11 Euros, talk about cheap travel! This might just be my favorite part of living in Europe, everything is so close and you can always find cheap transportation whether it be flights, buses or trains. Besides seeing the famous Dragon Bridge and Club K4 I think I’m most excited about the H&M clothing store there, haha anyone who lives in a country like Croatia the has very little besides designer brand stores understands the overwhelming joy of seeing H&M or any other cheap clothing store. Anyways train leaves tomorrow morning see you guys when I get back!

Summer in Trogir..and Brela...and Sarajevo...and Mostar

I'M BACK! For a few days at least
Oh summer how you fly by. I took a few weeks off of senior summer homework and work, grabbed some sun block and headed down to the coast with the fam. Its easy for others posted in Zagreb to forget how lucky we are to have the Mediterranean coast only a short 3 hour drive away, along with over 1,000 Croatian islands to choose from. I've always been a sandy beach person but I’m not going to complain about the rock beaches, they’re cleaner and there are just too many things to love about it. I spent a few days in Trogir a beautiful small town then drove an hour south the Brela. We spent a week there with an amazing view of the ocean right outside our windows. On our drive back home we decided, 'Hey why not pass through Bosnia and spend a day in Sarajevo?' Not only did we get to spend some time in Sarajevo but stopped in Mostar for lunch and some quick shopping at the Turkish markets. EVERYTHING was beautiful and I can't think of a better way to take a relaxing vacation only a few hours drive from our front door.

Fast Food Fury

I'm watching this clip and i'm laughing thinking, "Damn girl! Someone get this woman her extra fries!" When it comes down to it, its disappointing. I've lived outside of the States most of my life returning for a year of language training here and there. I've gotten to experiance many different culture's reactions to America, and one thing everyone knows is America's unhealthy obssesion with junk food. Currently I live in Croatia where most of our food comes from the markets and is all made domestically, finding an american brand product happens all to rarely. One thing is for certain, the food here and every other country i've lived in is delicous and posses flavors you can only get from fresh foods that have not been injected with numberous unpronouncable chemicals. Now, lets get one thing straight, yes I am not a fast food fan i just wasn't raised eating it and it all tastsvery fake and unessesary to me, but from time to time I like my junkfood just like everyone else. However, Americans have gone above and beyond with XXXL portions and overly procesed foods. I worry about them. At the end of the day I am an American and I love my country, but it is hard watching it slowely kill itself over a tray of ten $1 cheezburgers for lunch.
